Summer

I cannot wait until I'm done with my finals. I will finally be able to relax at home even though I'm going to be in summer school and busy with an internship.

Feminism

Our readings talk about different variables of feminism.
Shakey Ground talks about a different view of the movement and goes into detail about all the different parts of it.
The weekly readings cover similar things. They talk about how the view of women and what they can do has progressed over time. Like the magazine getting advertisements from male-directed companies. The reading of the problem that has no name showed how women were expected to take care of the family and house. However, they longed to have something more in their life.

I enjoyed these readings more than the rest of the semester. It is nice to study a different movement other than just African American.

poverty

The Other America shows the side of our country we don't like to acknowledge.
It is the 50 million people that are in poverty. The government chooses to just ignore them. They have become invisible and people are not trying to help them.

Freedom Summer 2

"Similarly, the traditional sexual double stand-alive and well in mid-sixties America-made a young woman's involvement in an unchaperoned project, such as Freedom Summer, much more problematic than it was for a young man." P. 58

"The Freedom Schools were an effort to counter the obcious inequities and insidious political messages inherent in this system." P. 83

"They were not so much color-blind as supremely desirous of appearing color-blind. The project staff too had been exposed to American racism since birth. But their nightmare experiences in Mississippi during the previous three years had moved them well byond the attitudes embraced by the volunteers." P. 103

Freedom Summer

I believe Freedom Summer showed how America was coming together. Volunteers joined African Americans to help them to register. Many whites in the south were still agaisnt black voting. However, Freedom Summer caused a change and brought attention to the stuggles of black voters.

What would Baldwin see in today's society?

I think he would see how people are more accepting today than in the past. America is not as judgemental and negative about people's differences. He would find it easier to feel a part of the country.
